Myrcene, or β-myrcene, is an olefinic natural organic hydrocarbon. It is more precisely classified as a monoterpene. Myrcene is also amajor constituent in lemongrass and bay oils.
Myrcene is an important intermediate used in the perfumery industry. It has a pleasant odor but is rarely used directly.
Myrcene is the most important starting material for olefinic scents, especially for the top-selling menthol and the alcohols nerol/geraniol and linalool.
