Pharmacological action

6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-one is used as artificial flavouring, and could be taken up with food. 6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-one is an endogenous germination stimulators of uredospores of Puccinia graminis var. tritici. 6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-one is a known insect defence semiochemical that acts as an alarm pheromone in ants. 6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-one can infuence mosquito behaviour. 6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-one can elicit antennal responses.
